16 Jul | Ørsted Launches AXYS Technologies’ FLiDAR Buoy to Assess Offshore Conditions for Ocean Wind Project in New Jersey

Ørsted, the global leader in offshore wind and the developer of Ocean Wind – an offshore wind farm to be located 10 miles off the coast of Atlantic City – announced today the deployment of a specialized buoy designed to measure wind and wave conditions. The AXYS FLiDAR WindSentinel is a floating LiDAR solution that will measure wind speed and direction to help determine the best locations and positions for wind turbines on the federally leased area.

16 Jul | Partrac support AUV performance trials for marine survey

A consortium comprising of the R&D UK Centre of EDF Energy, UTEC (an Acteon company), and Partrac Ltd completed an offshore trial designed to assess the performance of a commercial Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) for mapping seabed bathymetry. The trial was performed at EDF Renewables Teesside Offshore Wind Farm located off the North Yorkshire coast in England. The project tested a Teledyne Gavia Surveyor AUV owned and operated by global survey firm UTEC. Newcastle-based marine consultants Partrac Ltd provided support with survey area selection and critical appraisal of the AUV survey datasets.

06 Jul | Fugro returns to Ørsted’s Hornsea offshore wind farm sites for geotechnical site investigation

Fugro has commenced marine site characterisation work at the Hornsea Two Offshore Wind Farm site. The contract, awarded by renewable energy company Ørsted, covers geotechnical site investigation and follows other contracts awarded earlier this year for geophysical investigation services at the site.

25 Jun | Offshore wildlife surveys underway at Race Bank

APEM has begun high-resolution aerial wildlife surveys at Orsted’s Race Bank offshore wind farm, which officially opened earlier this month. Its 91 turbines located around 27 kilometres off the Lincolnshire coast are capable of powering around 500,000 homes, making the 75 square kilometre site the world’s fifth largest offshore wind farm.
